(June 6th, 2025) - It’s hard to imagine a scenario generating a more anticipated season opener for the cars and stars of the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series, but record levels of excitement await an anxious field of stars who are chomping at the bit to take to the track.

After concluding the 2024 season with a highly anticipated race that wrapped up in dramatic fashion, mother nature has triggered immense anticipation for the 2025 season opener. It has been almost 10 months now since Ashton Tucker won the 2024 championship in a tiebreaker after a months worth of weather delays. All the delays have led to a growing field of cars, and cranked up the dial on the proverbial pressure cooker for drivers.

As such, we look to finally host the season opener at Petty International Raceway for the LV Auto Parts & Repair 150 on Sunday June 8th at 2pm, with a stout twenty-one (21) car field.

Prior to the rainout last Sunday, drivers did get on track for practice, giving an early glimpse of what was to come. However, the only conclusions drawn from that practice was uncertainty remains - as the field was as close as they’ve ever been on the speed charts. Throw in some additional entries for this weekend, and fans are sure to be in for an incredible show.

SUPER SIX Super Late Model Series Storylines

Out Of Our Way Mother Nature

Trust us, it will be worth the wait.

By the time the green flag waves on the 2025 Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series season, twenty-nine (29) days will have passed since the originally scheduled start to the season.

Effectively a full month of waiting - fueling anticipation and excitement, mixed with frustration from persistent delays. Drivers are amped up and ready to go, and with each rain delay the entry list has grown. As of press time, twenty-one (21) drivers have signaled intent to compete - a field delivering the best of both quality and quantity to fans to start the season.

Delayed Start Ushers Some New Faces To Entry List

The entry list has continued to grow, with some more top stars throwing their name into the mix from the week before!

Former River Glade International winner Nicholas Naugle (#08) is one of those drivers! Naugle has a six-pack of Super Late Model wins in the Maritimes - in addition to some strong performances south of the border - and this will be his first Atlantic Canadian race of 2025, and first Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series start in two years!

Braden Langille (#26) will be making his Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series debut this weekend. Langille is a longstanding Legends star who has competed in a Super Late Model over the years, but is returning to competition in a big way in 2025. He raced at Scotia Speedworld one week ago with a strong return, and is hungry for more at Petty this weekend!

Ian Rasmussen (#81) will make his first start of 2025 after winning the 2024 Speedway 660 Line-X Pro Stock division championship - a monumental feat for the second generation driver. Rasmussen has racked up strong runs at Petty on the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series, and looks for more this weekend.

Finally, multi-time Speedway 660 Sportsman champion John Rankin (#9) will be back on track with the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series after scaling back in 2024. Rankin is a former Super Late Model winner at Speedway 660, and is a well recognized driver in the province of New Brunswick.

Lonnie Sommerville Topped Tight Practice Session

When the checkered flag waved on the lone completed practice last Sunday, it was Lonnie Sommerville (#23) finding himself sitting on top of the scoreboard. Sommerville is chasing a few things missing from his resume - a major win on the high banks of Petty, and a regional Super Late Model championship! A multi-time 250 winner and Speedway 660 champion, Sommerville is a star who is ready to make a statement in 2025!

It was a very tight practice session, as Sommerville topped the charts by a mere 0.004 seconds over Ryan Messer (#1). Like Sommerville, Messer has won 250’s and seen plenty of success at Speedway 660, but that Petty win remains elusive and he hopes this Sunday is his day!

Tanton Wooldridge Poised For Breakout Season

Sitting in the top five when practice was completed before the rain came was young PEI hot shoe Tanton Wooldridge (#01). Piloting the #01 car driven by Troy Burke in past years, Wooldridge showed stellar speed in his new ride.

This won’t surprise most - Wooldridge has been making a name for himself in the Legend and Bandolero ranks. But in a limited number of Super Late Model starts in recent years, tough luck has often marred otherwise promising runs. But the speed shown on Sunday was perhaps the best we’ve ever seen from this young driver.

If the 01 Motorsports team can return this weekend with speed, it will almost surely translate into Tanton being in contention for the win - a monumental win that would vault the youngster to stardom. The win is sure to come with this speed, and it could be as early as this weekend’s LV Auto Parts & Repair 150!

Dave O’Blenis Showing Speed and Confidence

Not far off Sommerville and Messer on the time charts was Dave O’Blenis (#48), another crafty veteran and a Maritime Motorsports Hall of Famer. Unlike many other drivers in the field, O’Blenis does have Super Late Model wins at Petty International Raceway - but his checkered flags came in 50-lap features. So a trophy from a major extended distance event is not among his 100+ feature win trophies, at least yet.

Dave was showing the type of confidence that makes a driver of his pedigree dangerous after posting the fourth quickest time of last week's practice session. After taking a step back to regroup for much of the 2024 season - only making a handful of starts all year - O’Blenis is certainly not ready to hang up the helmet yet, and could be in line for his best opportunity for a Super Late Model Series championship yet!

Possibility for More Entries?

With this weekend being a historic double header with the Maritime Pro Stock Tour, a number of drivers have entertained the possibility of racing on Sunday, should Saturday’s race go well.

Of course with weather in the forecast for Saturday’s portion of the show, that could entice drivers to still get laps in, or change plans otherwise. Needless to say, the current twenty-one (21) car entry list is very subject to change, and a final count really wouldn’t be expected until race morning - but fans can be assured it will be strong.

Could stars like reigning Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series champion Ashton Tucker (#2), reigning runner-up Cory Hall (#83), defending Maritime Pro Stock Tour champion Jarrett Butcher (#54), rising star Gage Gilby (#25) or veteran driver Chris Hughes (#32) make an appearance, just to scratch the surface? Could other drivers surprise with a late entry adding to the depth of the field?

Uncertainty and opportunity have been the key words heading into the 2025 season, and those will certainly ring true up until start time for Sunday’s LV Auto Parts & Repair 150.
