SUPER SIX Super Late Model Series Storylines
Points Battle As Close As It Can Get At Halfway Point of 2025
Everyone thought the points battle last season spoiled us, but 2025 may raise the bar.
At the halfway mark of the 2024 season, two points separated Ashton Tucker and Cory Hall. In 2025, Ryan Messer is clinging to a one point lead over Tanton Wooldridge.
But not only are the top two close, the top four (4) are all within six (6) positions on track of each other, and the top six (6) all within striking distance. So while Messer and Wooldridge are locked in a title fight, Dylan Gosbee (#16) and Lonnie Sommerville (#23) are four (4) points apart battling for third - and less than eleven (11) points behind Messer - while Greg Fahey and Dave O’Blenis are two (2) points apart and less than thirty (30) points behind Messer.
Any of these drivers has a realistic shot to earn the championship in 2025. Last Oyster Bed Speedway event, Gosbee and Wooldridge earned podium finishes with Greg Fahey posting a career best fourth place effort. For Messer, Sommerville, and O’Blenis, they found themselves a little deeper in the field but still inside the top ten.
Anything can and will happen. This is not just a battle, it’s an all out war for the 2025 championship!
Storm Warning as Hurricane Hall Set To Hit Oyster Bed Speedway
It’s been a magical run, but can it continue?
The runner up in 2024 Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series competition has hit the Maritime racing season like a hurricane in 2025, striking his competitors down with a vengeance.
Cory Hall has won six of seven Maritime races started in 2025 - including the prestigious IWK 250, and the Universal Truck and Trailer 150 at Oyster Bed Speedway in June. He has won the last three Easy-Kleen SLMS races on PEI, and is looking for one more to the collection in what could be a second consecutive season sweep.
However, an intriguing storyline comes with Hall’s entry blank for this week’s race. Hall is bringing his Hamke chassis to the Island Construction - which will be the first race for the car at Oyster Bed Speedway. Hall has previously dominated with his Fury chassis - scoring all of his wins with it. The Hamke car however, is the car which Hall won the IWK 250 with two weeks ago. But having never run it at Oyster Bed Speedway, is this changing variable with a different chassis enough for the field to capitalize?
There is a figurative target on his back going into the Island Construction 200, but his recent successes make him the odds on favorite. It’ll be Hall versus the field, as we anxiously await to see if anyone can top the #83 on Prince Edward Island.
Chris Duncan Rides Again
They say lightning doesn’t strike twice. But Chris Duncan said “hold my drink.”
For the second time in three years, Duncan rolled over in the ReCar 200 at Speedway 660. While the second flip three weeks ago was a bit less dramatic than that of 2023, it left Duncan and team with significant repairs.
However, this team has shown time and time again that they don’t back down from a challenge. Sitting top ten in points with a heat win to his credit this year, Duncan is ready to put the pedal down and bounce back - while keeping it on all four wheels. Look for a redemption storyline from the Easy-Kleen Pressure Systems Ltd. #97 on Saturday.
Brandon Albert’s Impressive Rookie Campaign Returns Home
Brandon Albert (#37) finds himself top ten in points in his rookie campaign - and has been knocking on the door of a top ten finish!
In his first ever Speedway 660 start in the ReCar 200, Albert came just shy of his first career top ten result - an impressive run for his first trip to the Geary Woods, and only third career Super Late Model start.
Back home at Oyster Bed Speedway, Albert is prepped for the Island Construction 200. He has been fitting right in with the series, and quickly adapting to the Super Late Model cars. Will this week be the time for Albert to break into the spotlight, and potentially garner his first top ten result?
Lonnie Sommerville Riding Momentum From First Series Win
For the first time since 2023, someone not named Ashton Tucker or Cory Hall earned an Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series checkered flag. That driver would be none other than Lonnie Sommerville (#23).
Sommerville commanded the field for the most laps and outduelled several challenges late to conquer the ReCar 200 at Speedway 660. It was a stellar points day for the Barnesville driver, slotting him fourth overall in standings and only a few points behind the leaders.
Sommerville has been consistent at Oyster Bed Speedway - posting four top tens in five races. With more momentum and confidence than almost any other driver, watch for Sommerville to try and go back-to-back!
MacKinnon, MacEwen, Hughes, Vincent, Leclair, Lewis Among PEI Contenders
Outside of the championship and Rookie of the Year contenders on the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series, six additional Island stars are seeking a big win in front of the hometown crowd - which would be each of their first career wins with the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series.
Robbie MacEwen (#40) and Darren MacKinnon (#18) each have a pair of podium finishes at Oyster Bed Speedway in Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series competition. They are former winners and track champions at Oyster Bed Speedway, and while are competing part-time in 2025, have proven to be perennial contenders on the series.
Four more drivers - some of whom have knocked on the door in the past - will be looking for their first podium finish with the series, or maybe even first win! Kent Vincent (#8) and Chris Hughes (#32) each have multiple top 10 results without a podium, while Brodie Lewis (#22) has been on the verge of breaking through with a strong run. Meanwhile, Mark Leclair (#51) has shown good speed in his two series starts, including a top ten qualifying effort in June.
For all PEI drivers, winning at home is a monumental accomplishment and a memory never to be forgotten. All nine (9) locals will seek to give the hometown fans a reason to get up and cheer on Saturday.
